FAQS
All About InvisiBlend® Clip-ins
The human hair we use in our InvisiBlend® Clip-ins is bonded together using an organic polymer called polyurethane ( as opposed to being bound with a less environmentally friendly silicone strip or sewn together with thread like traditional clip-ins ). They feature a durable, ‘no-shed’ cross-linking technology of this organic polymer, which provides minimal-to-no shedding when using our InvisiBlend® clip-ins, compared to traditional clip-ins.
How long will my extensions last?
Ruka sources 100% human hair, which is prone to the same shedding and tangling that our own hair would experience, especially as curlier hair requires regular detangling. With the right TLC, human hair retains its like-new quality for around 6-9 months with daily installation.
This means that with the right care:
- Wearing your Ruka hair regularly will make it last approximately 1 year.
- Wearing your Ruka hair less often (several times a month or year, even) will have it last at least 2 years.
Getting the most longevity out of human hair extensions means avoiding overly frequent or excessive heat and chemicals like dyeing/bleaching. Generally, treating your Ruka extensions with the same love you would do your own hair is key.
You will receive instructions via email or by scanning the QR code on your package on how to maintain your Ruka hair extensions, and our has a great selection of tutorials, guidance and style inspo to get the best out of your extensions✨
Can I sleep with my extensions?
You sure can, though we’d recommend using a silk/satin bonnet or silk/satin scarf to preserve the quality, hair health and longevity of your extensions whilst you sleep.
If you're likely to forget to put on a satin bonnet, a satin pillowcase is a great alternative to help maintain the quality of your extensions and prevent any unnecessary tangle, shedding or matting caused by sleeping in your extensions.
Can I swim with my extensions?
Absolutely - just be sure to take care of your extensions afterwards by carefully rinsing the chlorine/salt water out and applying a good deep conditioning treatment. This is important because salt water and chlorine can impact the quality of your extensions, stripping them of essential moisture that can lead to a loss of softness and shine, as well as increased matting/tangling.
How do I install my clip-ins?
How you install your clip-ins will depend on your desired final look. Have a look at our step-by-step pictorials for a visual on how to install your clip-ins.
Otherwise, t o wear your hair out as is with a little added volume , simply part your hair in thin sections and select a row of clip-ins wide enough for that section you have parted. Once you have lined the row of clip-ins with the parted section, snap open the clips, slip them into your roots one after the other, and gently snap them back shut.
To wear your clip-ins with as little leave out as possible , create your parting where you want it to be. Next, section out a small portion of hair on either side of the parting. If you want to wear your hair pulled back, simply part a small section going across your hairline from ear to ear. Following this, gather and tuck away the remainder of your hair - the part you don’t want to be left out. You can do this by putting it in large plaits, cornrows, or even a bun. Next, take one row of clip-ins at a time and begin to slip and snap them into your hair from the back/bottom and work your way up to the top/front of your head. Blend the small portions of hair you left out with the clip-ins to finish the look.
Your clip-ins should feel secure but not tight or uncomfortable.
Can the hair be straightened?
Yes it absolutely can - straightened, curled, blown out - you name it. Just like our own hair, your extensions are susceptible to heat damage and loss of curl pattern, so we recommend applying a heat protectant to preserve the hair health if you are going to apply heat tools.
We have designed our textures to give you the full range of hair states with ease. For example, we love that Think Kink can be straightened to give a fluffy Press’d vibe but revert back to its kinks. However, if you know you want to straighten your Think Kink every day it’s probably best to just get Press’d so as to not over process your Think Kink hair (and to save some time in straightening it!). Or of course you can do like us and get both for ultimate range and ease!
Can the hair be dyed?
The short answer is yes. However, keep in mind that colouring human hair extensions requires the same TLC as colouring your own hair, and any dyeing you do is at your own risk.
Whenever you apply a light colour dye, the hair is slightly damaged in the process and can suffer loss of curl pattern/hair loss. This is because the chemical process of lightening hair means you are removing proteins and melanin from the hair, which weakens it.
For best results, we recommend giving it over to a professional who is familiar with colouring curly and coily hair, to ensure that your hair is under the best care.
